NORTEX is a very informal group of amateur radio operators that generally operate at QRP (low power)  levels. We meet monthly to enjoy camaraderie  with like minded individuals.  There are No officers and No dues.  One other thing that sets NORTEX apart from many clubs (radio or otherwise) is that there are also NO Cliques … everyone is welcome.

The group starts gathering about 10:00 am for coffee and muffins.  There is always chili and soda about 11:00am.  No problem if you get here after 10:00 most folks are still here at 12:30 or 1:00, sometimes later.

NORTEX has a Yahoo Group ~ check it out

Here’s How ~  Go to Yahoo.com, click on groups, in the block marked find a group type NORTEX, choose NORTEX_QRP,  click join this group.  Check it out ~ the more activity the more fun and info.

Lockheed (Ft. Worth) Hamfest  – Wow it was a really good one.  Compares very favorably with the one that used to be in Arlington.  (Editor's opinion)   We saw friends that we hadn’t seen in a year or more.  The planners were stunned at the turn-out and are already planning additional space for next year.  We definitely plan to be there next year and will be sure to announce the date as soon as it becomes available.

I am pleased, and Joe (KK5NA) is ecstatic to announce that I, Barbara, (KK5QA) made my first (actually first 3) CW contacts on Saturday during the FYBO.  I made contacts with Joe, KK5NA,  Andy, WA5RML and Gary, KM5IT.

We are in the process of creating a members biography page.  Soon this will be a hot link to that page.  Joe will send out an email when the page is available.

   He's a Suspicious Character

On Thursday I (KK5NA) was sitting in the park near work on my lunch break using my KX-1 into a wire thrown into a tree on a water bottle.   As I  sat there tuning the band a car drove into the parking lot...turned half around sat there a few minutes then drove away.   In a little while a NRH Park truck drove into the lot and parked near the entrance for a few minutes then left...
After a little while I decided to give up and get back to work. I packed my KX-1 up and rolled up my counterpoise and just as I was taking the wire down from the tree and rolling it back onto the water bottle...two NRH Police cars drove up....they asked me how it was going and what I was doing. I introduced myself and explained I was an Amateur radio operator and each day I tried to come to a local park, throw a wire up into a tree and work someone. They asked how far I had talked and a few other radio questions, then said good luck and went on their way.
